Buying a Computer (Components)

Resource(s)
Learning Goals
  • We will identify a customer's needs for a computer.
  • We will identify the basic components needed to build a computer.
  • We will identify a "customer" that needs a new computer.
  • We will identify the specific components (brand, model number) needed to build a computer for a customer.
  • We will price all the relevant components needed to build a computer for a customer.
  • We will ensure case and motherboard compatibility by ensuring they have the same form factor.
  • We will ensure motherboard and CPU compatibility by ensuring they have the same socket style.
  • We will compare the prices we determined for our computer to manufacturers such as Dell.
Tasks
  • Identify your imaginary (or real customer).
  • Scan the Wintronic website for the type of components you think you might need. Talk to other students or your instructor about this if you are not sure.
  • Record a list of those components in the "Generic List of Components" section of your document, generically (i.e., "hard drive", "mouse").
  • Identify and record a list of the specific components you have chosen, along with the prices, in the "Specific List of Components" section of your document.
  • Calculate the total price for your system.
  • Double-check the compatibility of the case and the motherboard (form factor) and the motherboard and the CPU (socket).
Already Done This Assignment?
  • Add a new column to the list of components in your previous assignment and add in the new (current) prices to see how they have changed. Re-share the document with your instructor. Be sure to change the course code in the title first.
