Coverage for 2012-02-08 to 2012-02-10

Period 1 - TGJ3M, TGJ4M

All period one students are to complete the survey found here.

Everyone is working on independent projects that should take them at least a week to do.

For the grade 11's, there is a planning document (sign-in req'd) that should be used to record the details of their project (planning notes, status, etc.). Everyone should be working on their project, and should not be on Facebook or other personal sites. YouTube is okay as long as it's related to their project (ask to see their project information in the document above).

The grade 12's have their project detailed in an online weekly journal that they can show you. The journal should include a plan for what they intend to do and their status. They should be staying on task with this project. If they are not on task, please record this as it will affect their mark.

For the grade 11's, if they say their project is done (doubtful) and handed in then they can work on the Tree in Niagara Falls assignment or their Cool Tech assignment. If a grade 12 says their project is done then they can start on a 2nd independent project by documenting it in their journal.



Period 3 - TIJ1O

Hand out the "Safety Word Search" and "Safety" handouts to the students (on my file cabinet). These are to be completed after the floor plan assignment.

Floor Plan Assignment - They have created a hand-drawn sketch (with dimensions) of the Tech department (3rd wing only). They are to draw this floor plan in Google SketchUp and hand it into the hand-in folder that has been created for them:

Safety Word Search - As each student finishes up the floor plan project, ask them to complete the "Safety Word Search" handout (on my filing cabinet). They are to complete the word search, then create a document in whichever word processing program they want (Word Perfect, Open Office, Google Documents, etc.) and write a safety-related sentence for each of the words. Their document should use a format similar to the following:

Safety Sentences

Name: Jack Smith

Cellphone -- Cellphones are not allowed in class because they could distract me from what is going on around me.

Laces -- Something using the word "laces"...

Etc.

When they complete the document it is to be handed into this hand-in folder:

Safety - For the "Safety" handouts, the students are to use this document as their reference. A link will be provided on the daybook for their convenience. All questions are to be answered, with correct spelling.

SketchUp Tutorial - If they finish the safety package (doubtful), they can do the "2010_10_Dice" SketchUp tutorial in the following folder:

O:\Beens\TDJ Tech Design\Sketchup Tutorials

If they finish that too (!) then they can work on their Cool Tech assignment.



Period 4 - ICS3U/3C/4U

The grade 12 students are to be working on their Python Video Tutorials and Python challenges. They have been briefed and should easily be able to stay on task.

The grade 11 students are working on the Turing Graphics assignments and Python Tutorial. This should easily keep them challenged. For the Turing landscape assignment, the requirements the students came up with are here.

If everything is done (doubtful) then they can work on their Cool Tech assignment.
