Success Criteria

Success criteria are written alongside the learning goals. The criteria for effective success criteria are:

    • answers the questions "What does successful learning look like?", "What are we to look for during the learning?";

    • makes the success criteria explicit for teachers and students alike;

    • builds a common understanding of success;

    • lends itself to descriptive feedback;

    • promotes self and peer assessment;

    • helps identify possible next steps;

    • leads to individual goal setting;

    • empowers students to take ownership of their learning;

    • challenges students to internalize the criteria;

    • helps develop independent learning skills.
